A survey of the representation of modern architecture in the cinema

Modern architecture, a reaction to the industrialization of 19th-century, is characterized by lack applied decoration, exposed structural members, materials kept in their natural state and “flat” roofs. It developed Europe 1920s 1930s, particularly Germany, Netherlands France, spread rest world after World War II. Depending on your point view, architecture can either be exciting exhilarating or inhuman oppressive. This article surveys these two opposite representations cinema, beginning from its first appearance until today. Films directed Marcel L’Herbier (The Inhuman Woman, 1924), Alfred Hitchcock (North Northwest, 1959), Jacques Tati (Mon Oncle, 1958, Playtime, 1967), Jean-Luc Godard (Contempt, 1963, Alphaville, 1965, Two Three Things I Know About Her, as well several James Bond series (Dr. No [Terence Young, 1962], Goldfinger [Guy Hamilton, 1964], Diamonds are Forever 1971]) highlighted. Culminating survey like-minded films since 1980s, concludes that cinema here stay will continue play an integral role making films.
